For Josh.... Hillsong College
Hi All,
This is in reply to a question about Hillsong College (Josh, next time use my contact page and then I can email you back).
In four words: Hillsong College is awesome. I go to the city campus, which is in central/southern Sydney. Malls, sights, and many other things are in short reach. The majority of students (I'm an exception) live about 5 mins walk from the college/church. It is a smaller campus with less people (about 300) and an awesome family atmosphere. All but about 2 or 3 lecturers are shared at both campuses and you have a lot more oportunity to get involved at city than Hills.
Don't get me wrong, Hills is good too. They have about 700 students and have the best facilities. They have (essentially) their own building for college seperate from the big convention center where the majority of their services are held. They offer a bit more in selection for Worship and creative arts, as they have dance studios for dance students.
The down side (or up side) of Hills is that is in the middle of a huge residential area with one mall and thats about it. It's in North Western Sydney and far away from the 'city' itself. Some students at hills complain there is nothing to do and even move to City for their next term/year. We have had people leave city for hills too though....
Ah yes, I should tell you about streams. If you go to their website hillsongcollege.com it will give you the info you need. Basically, there is Worship and Creative arts (which you major in your instrument/your voice/drama/dance/etc....), Pastoral Leadership, Pasoral Counselling, Youth Leadership..... and there a bunch of internships as well where you get to essentially intern as part of their staff in an area such as youth.
You can do 1, 2, or in some cases 3 years in a stream. The 1st year gives you a certificate 4 in ministry, the 2nd year gives you a dimploma in ministry and the 3rd is an advanced diploma. They are fully accredited.
If you have any other questions go to the contact page....

Hey Aaron,
Thanks so much for for posting this info it's very useful for me as I'm considering going to Hillsong College next year. I thought I would go to the city campus mainly cause I figured being in the burbs would be boring. Thanks for confirming my decision. If I go I would do W&CA. What do you do?
Hey Aaron,
I replied to your comment on my blog but then thought you might not see it so I reposted it here :-)
Thanks for the comment. It's much appreciated.
Thats awesome that God is already beginning to place you in leadership, you would be gaining so much valuable experience, Im sure He's got even greater things ahead of you.
What performance major in W&CA are you doing? Im going to do music majoring in voice also I read that you can do an elective called performance major plus allowing you to major in 2 instruments so I would do keyboard aswell. What electives do you do?
Sorry this is a bit like 20 questions.
Thanks for your help ;-)
I'm not sure I fully understand what your saying, "the only real difference between majoring in vocal versus other instruments is that vocal major students automatically get slotted in to serve in choir". Are you saying that a vocal major and a vocal minor are basically the same thing? Would you do worship leading in the vocal major?
Also what piano achievements did you have before you went to college? I have done up to 2nd grade piano with AMEB. But thats classically trained, not to boast or anything but Im much better at chords and stuff. What type of stuff do you in the piano major?
Thanks
