The Church Today
Hey all....
Here is a post I made in response to a blog post (here) about the church today.
Spot on... Australia is a perfect example. Currently in this country all of the "trditional churches" in the country have rapidly declining membership/attendance and all of the 'radical churches' are growing fast. Hillsong for example, with services that reach out the new generations and long to sustain the mature generations.. it 'works'. With countless teams reaching out to new Christians, reaching out in the streets, helping homeless, addicts, etc.... living Christ...
One of the main problems of a lot of churches is they seek to fully satisfy what they have, not reach out to what God wants. If you train and equip new christians and the younger generations, they can in turn train and equip when they become mature. Your focus is still on new believers but your 'mature christians' are still being feed and blessed by helping others. The best way to learn is to teach.... you also have things like small groups through the week which give that extra food and the ability to make sure all your 'mature' christians are ok.
That's (on a very safe level..lol) is how to do church in 2006. It works for this area. Now, what churches have to do is (no not copy it) but look at it and then figure out what suits the area around their church. What is the culture of the area... what will help and reach out to people..... and live what we preach.
