Hillsong Conference 06 and Beyond
Hi All,
Has been a while since I last posted....
Last week I served in Hillsong Conference 2006 in the production team. I had an amazing time meeting new people, working alongside great people and sitting in on sessions. I served in the production loop crew meaning I was all over the place, setting up small sound systems, drapes, staging etc.... I did most of my work in the main arena bust also setup and take down in the other venues being used. The conference was/is held in the Olympic Park in Sydney, and therefire had a lot of facilities to offer.
They had 30,000 delegates this year and 4,000 volunteers, so as you can see it was a big undertaking. I enjoyed simply being a part of something so massive for God.
I met a few 'well known' people at conference, like Rick Warren (Purpose Driven Life), Marty Sampson (Hillsong United), Israel Houton, and Martin Smith (Delerious). They are all great people and very 'normal'. Rick came right over to me and a couple guys to say hi after he came off stage. As a production team member I had access to almost everywhere, such as backstage.
After the conference I reflected on the great teaching in the sessions I was able to attend. The day after it finished (Saturday) I was sitting on my bed thinking about the songwriting sessions I ran sound for and thought of this statement mentioned: "When I write worship songs I envision people in my congregation singing it... owning it for themselves" (Martin Smith). After reflectiing on it, I thought of things happening at SCCC and instantly recieved lyrics and a melody for a song in my head. About 1 hour later I had a finished song :D. I MIGHT post it sometime soon....
Overall it was an amazing conference, but tiring. Having just lead worship at a new SCCC extension service (after playing in normal church) the conference added on top of the fatigue I already had. I then played in the next Sunday morning service and lead worship in the PM service. I will also be leading worship for a few events this week at SCCC (my week of college..lol).
I have posted some pictures below of the Sunday PM service.....
